What if I lose momentum?

What is spiral review, and why does it work?

Spiral review means a word comes back in later lessons, in different situations. That's how memory works — you need to meet a word several times, spaced out, before it sticks. By the third encounter your brain recognizes it and files it in long-term memory. Skip the repetition and it quietly disappears. In every English Talks Portugal lesson we recycle the exact words you found hard. They reappear later in new tasks and contexts, so you learn them naturally instead of cramming. How long before I can hold a conversation?

If you've never spoken English before, you'll speak in your very first lesson. A typical path: month 1 — short sentences without long pauses; months 2–3 — two or three minutes of unprepared speech; months 4–6 — real conversations, podcasts you can follow, English you use outside class. It depends on you, though: how often you study, how much you practice in between, and how much the fear factor is holding you back. In the trial lesson we'll tell you what's realistic in your case.

Why native speakers only?

You get real pronunciation instead of textbook English, natural rhythm and intonation, the phrases people actually use, and the cultural context behind them. With a native teacher you hear the language as it sounds in daily life, not as it sounds in a course for learners. A few formats are taught by Russian-speaking teachers (helpful at 0–A2, when explanations matter). Even those teachers are native or bilingual from childhood.

I've studied English before and it didn't work. Why would this be different?

Usually it fails because the course doesn't match you, there's no visible progress, and the teacher explains rules while you barely speak. Here: the plan is yours specifically, progress is measured every month, you talk in every single lesson, and nobody makes you feel bad about mistakes. You'll feel the difference in the trial lesson.

Question 10

How often do my hard words come back?

After each lesson we look at which words and structures gave you trouble. They show up again in the next lesson, in new tasks. At the end of each module (roughly four lessons) there's a dedicated review of everything tricky from that stretch. So: you meet a hard word once, see it another five to seven times across lessons, and then start using it without thinking.
